I decided to get this light, not for my street (my house is in a cul-de-sac and our HOA has installed a few similar of these in our street). I bet they save a lot of money of the HOA fees we pay! I wanted it for my big shed in my backyard. I had already installed solar hanging lamps inside, but also needed something like these for its entrance so when anyone walks toward the shed, it would light by sensor. Since this is solar powered (charges during the day), it does not affect my power bill. To get better results, install in a way that it would catch the most sunlight. I usually prefer an orientation from East to West or viceversa. I have learned that thanks to the solar cameras that I have (the one with orientation North to South needs to be constantly charged with my power supply), all the other ones never loose charge (East to West). I have not noticed how long the charge lasts if on all night because it only comes on when there is motion. But everytime I go to my shed it lights up. Everything I have outside is solar powdered , cameras, lighting, ornaments, fence lights, post ornamrntal lights, etc. Most of them last all night. And like I said, things like these are great values that pay for themselves. The only reason I do not have solar panels is because my roof is new and I do not like installing anything directly on it.I live in a rural area and on a street that has a number of non-working street light. Despite calls to the local energy company that maintains them, there has been little to no effort to repair the lights and help illuminate a dark street. Couple that with the fact that a few of our neighbors are less than stellar in the character department and it is easy to see why this light was so attractive.The unit is constructed of a lightweight polymer that, although not metal, appear to be rather durable. The unit comes with a pole to mount it on or you can attach it directly to the side of your house, barn, post, etc. Set up is simple and takes only a few minutes once it is installed where you want it. I personally recommend putting it on a flagpole or the eave of your structure in order to get enough height to maximize the illuminating capability of the lamp, but that is just my thoughts.Once installed the light does a great job of turning night into day within the area of operation. On the side of my house it was able to turn a nearly pitch black front yard and street into a well lit area that deterred unwanted nocturnal activities. The motion detector aids in this by going from a dimmer lighting mode (I think it was about 10% - 20%) to full power once motion in the field of view is detected. This helps to keep people moving down the street and away from your property.Controlling the unit once installed is easy via the provided remote. It gives you a variety of options to help effectively use the stored energy provided by the integrated solar panel. Just make sure you install it in such a way as to maximize exposure to the sun throughout the day.I’m very pleased with how easy this was to install and it is bright. I’m not certain how long it will last on a good days charge since this is all property that I only visit on weekends. But so far I’ve had no issues with it functioning correctly.
